All good things must come to an end
Including the business software you may have been using for the past eight years. Microsoft has decided it will no longer issue security updates, fix bugs and flaws, or offer support for both Server 2012 and Exchange 2013. This is referred to as “End-of-Life” (EOL) and they will head to the big technology graveyard in the sky.
Why does this matter?
While technically you can still use your computer after the End-of-Life deadline, it comes with incredible risk. After the deadline EOL, your computer will be vulnerable to exploits, bugs, and viruses. Hackers especially focus on exploiting these types of vulnerabilities, because those who decide to be daring and not update, will likely not receive any help from Microsoft, so it makes them an easy target.
Bottom line: After October 2023 Microsoft will no longer be offering any support or repair services.
What does this mean for your business?
The mainstream support end date for both Server 2012 and Exchange 2013 has come and gone, and they are now running in “Extended Support”, which means that Microsoft is keeping an eye on vulnerabilities and will help you if an issue arises, but there may be added cost associated (thru Microsoft) for that support. This “extended Support” will come completely come to an end in 2023… So, planning ahead now to replace these items is the key to staying ahead of the game, and being left exposed. It is important to ensure that your business is protected, which will become more difficult without security updates, higher maintenance costs, and compliance concerns
